Critical update: UK Graduate Route visa will be reduced from 2 years to 18 months for Bachelor's and Master's graduates — but only for applications submitted from January 1, 2027. If you apply before December 31, 2026, you still get the full 2-year Graduate Route. PhD stays at 3 years unchanged. This is confirmed government policy following the October 2025 Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules.

Tip for you: If UK is your plan and you want the full 2-year post-study work right, your September 2026 intake is the last cohort that benefits from the 2-year rule. Starting January 2026 or later means you're on the 18-month timeline.

India became Germany's #1 source country for international students in 2025, with 59,000+ Indian students — a 104% increase from 2023 figures. 2026-27 admissions for October intake are currently open. Germany also updated UG eligibility criteria for Indian students in 2026 — check APS certificate requirements early.

Tip for you: APS certificate (India-specific academic assessment) is mandatory for all German university applications. Processing now takes approximately 3 weeks for CBSE applicants. Start this immediately if you are targeting October 2026 intake.

Canada froze eligible courses list for Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP) in early 2026. Diploma programme students must verify their CIP code aligns with in-demand sectors (healthcare, STEM) to qualify for PGWP. Study permit cap continues. Ontario and BC remain most restricted. Alberta and Manitoba have better approval rates.

Tip for you: If you're applying to a diploma or certificate programme in Canada, verify your CIP code is on the approved PGWP list before accepting admission. Degree programmes (Bachelor's, Masters) are generally safe.

Australia's Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) remains available for 2–4 years depending on qualification level and location. Australia continues to be a strong destination for Indian postgrads in 2026. Indian students remain the second-largest cohort after Chinese students.

Tip for you: Australia is strong for healthcare, engineering, and accounting — fields with genuine skills shortages. Research state-specific scholarships; Victoria and Queensland offer targeted scholarships for Indian students.

QS World University Rankings 2026 were released — MIT #1, Cambridge #2, Oxford #3. IISc Bangalore is India's highest-ranked at #211.

World rankings tell you one dimension. A university ranked #200 overall can be #10 globally in your specific subject. Always cross-check QS Subject Rankings — they matter far more for your career outcome than the overall list.

ODA Take: University of Bath is #179 overall but #11 globally for Pharmacy. University of Strathclyde is #231 overall but #26 for Chemical Engineering. If you are shortlisting by overall rank alone, you are almost certainly missing the best-fit universities for your specific course.

Post-study work rights are shifting across destinations in 2026. The UK is cutting from 2 to 18 months (from Jan 2027). Canada's PGWP eligibility is being narrowed by course type. Germany and Australia remain the most stable. Indian graduates with international degrees continue to command a 25–40% salary premium back home — making the investment worthwhile even if post-study work abroad is limited.
